Meet Elle

Here at Tutor The Nation, we try our best to get to know every one of our volunteers, pupils and schools. So we wanted to introduce you to one of our tutors, so they can tell you a little bit more about themself and volunteering with TTN.

What’s your name?

Elle

What University are you at and what year are you in?

4th year student at Newcastle University

What do you study?

Modern Languages: French and Spanish

Tell us a little about yourself.

I am 22 years old and I live in Newcastle. I am a lover of languages and so I have been learning Italian and Japanese too! I love doing yoga in my free time.

Why did you get involved in TTN?

After witnessing the educational disparity post-Covid and seeing the kind of work I could do with TTN it was a no-brainer. I feel like I am actively helping to contribute to positive change with each tutee I work with.

What and who do you tutor?

I tutor French and Spanish to A-level students.

What do you find rewarding about TTN?

Knowing that I am making a positive change to each individual’s life.

Tell us about a memorable tutoring moment?

My memorable moment is when one of my pupils got his A* for French A-level. He worked so hard for it and seeing him progress from an A to an A* was so inspiring. He was a fellow language lover so we discussed for example his future plans post A-levels and him going to China to start Mandarin! This experience will definitely stay with me as I hoped I helped inspire him like he inspired me!

And here are some quick fire questions…

What do you do in your spare time (other than volunteer with TTN)?

Spend time with my friends, do yoga + pilates and drink lots of coffee!

Name 5 people you would have at a dinner party?

I would have 5 of my closest friends, you know what they say about meeting your idols!

Where is your dream holiday location?

My dream holiday location is to Guatemala to visit my best friend who moved there.

What was your favourite subject at school?

English Literature funnily enough! I did not enjoy languages until A-level!

Tell us about an inspirational teacher who taught you.

My English Lit teacher, she was always so kind and encouraging. She really developed my passion for English Lit and reading.
