Tutors of Christmas Day 2: Jon Retolaza

What are you currently studying at university?

I am currently studying a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at the University of Durham.

What are your plans for next year?

Next year, I am planning on doing a Placement Year in Industry, possibly in a business and finance environment or in the civil service.

Any memorable moments from tutoring a pupil?

In a recent lesson (A-Level Spanish) the student was interested in understanding the different perspectives on the Spanish Civil War as part of the AQA curriculum. We came up with an interesting exercise: for a whole lesson, the student conducted an interview of me in Spanish, with questions they had come up with after thorough research beyond the curriculum. It was a challenge, but overall, a really nice and different experience, I hope it was helpful for them too!
