Tutors of Christmas Day 3: Jarin Shaima
What are you currently studying at university?
I am studying Bachelors in Medical Science (BMedSci) at the University of Chester.
What are your plans for next year?
Since it’s high time I will have to start thinking of my career, I have plans of attending a study abroad program at one of the prestigious universities abroad with the help of my university and gain real world experience. I also look forward to dedicating myself in the betterment of the society by trying to acquire a field job in my field of study while continuing to volunteer for as many causes around the city and the world as possible. Since my studies are still underway, there’s not a fixed route I have decided yet other than this.
Any memorable moments from tutoring a pupil?
There was a pupil who is still fresh in my memory due to my experience with her. My last pupil, during the beginning of the current year, was seeking assistance for her GCSE exams in science subjects. She had considerable problems in Chemistry specifically, which is a subject I faced issues with as well during my GCSE and A Levels. Hearing the same queries and confusions, career hurdles and frustration regarding her choice of subject which was also affecting her emotional health and social life in general, I couldn’t help but sympathise a lot with her. Hence, using my experience of hardship in the respective subject while the journey of overcoming all those to secure high grades, I assisted her completely towards her goal as well while also uplifting her mood and inspiration for achieving the career goals.
I consider this pupil a great person to have tutored with a great lesson experience as she not only reminded me of my hardships but also the determination and dedication I had put into overcoming every problem in the way of achieving my dreams, eventually guiding her towards that as well. It renewed my life’s purpose. Besides, she was a very sweet and kind soul herself. We had a really good understanding and communication level, with the flexibility of asking questions while also gaining insights into each other’s lives as students which aspired us to be the best version of ourselves. In one word, we both learnt crucial lessons from each other. Tutoring her was a pleasure of my life and I always wish the best for her.
